Celebrating the Life of Jannie V. Jones-Davis. September 5, 1926 ~ December 31, 2011. Services: Friday ~ January 6, 2012, Visitation ~ 10:00 AM, Service ~ 11:00 AM. Ebenezer M.B. Church, 4501 S. Vincennes Avenue, Chicago, IL 60653. Reverend Marcel Kerr ~ Officiating. Obituary - Jannie Jones-Davis Jannie Jones-Davis entered this world on September 5, 1926 in Shreveport, LA. She was born to the union of Reverend Eugene and Clara Virdell Dyles. Jannie's spiritual background began in Shreveport, LA. at a very early age. She was baptized by the Reverend Pompie Green, Pastor of the Mt. Corinth Baptist Church. She was very active in her church and that continued after her family migrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1942. She united with the Ebenezer M.B. Church along with other family members. She served in many capacities, including church clerk, financial secretary, Sunday school teacher and Supt. of the Senior Department. She sang in the Junior Choir, Acappella group, Angelic Choir, Senior Choir and Voices of Ebenezer. Earlier, she served as Girl Scout Leader and participated in many other groups. Jannie's educational background began in Shreveport, LA at the Valencia Grammar School. Later, she graduated from DuSable High School in Chicago and continued to advance throughout her life. Jannie worked with young people for many years as a volunteer probation officer. Jannie was married. She was not blessed with children, however, she claimed many children during her lifetime. On December 31, 2011, Jannie was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter ~ Francine; two loving granddaughters ~ LaTonya and Michelle; five nieces ~ Mazie, Retha, Joyce, Debrah and Eloyce; Goddaughter ~ Ethlyn; lifetime friend ~ Pearl Reevers; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. When I Must Leave You: When I must leave you for a little while, Please do not grieve and shed wild tears And hug your sorrow to you through the years, But start out bravely with a gallant smile; And for my sake and in my name Live on and do all things the same, Feed not your loneliness on empty days, But fill each waking hour in useful ways, Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near: And never, never be afraid to die, for I am waiting for you in the sky!
