Reflections of Life: Regina Lynn Harvey was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 17, 1960 to Thelma L. Harvey and Waldo E. Harvey, Sr. Regina was the third of five children born to this union. She was preceded in death by her mother and oldest brother, Waldo Jr. Regina accepted Christ at the age of 10 and was baptized by the late Rev. John L. Thurston at New Covenant M.B. Church. During her early years, Regina began her life long ministry as an Usher at New Covenant where she continued to serve as a gate keeper for over forty years until her passing. As the youth president of the junior usher board, she participated in numerous workshops and conventions all over the country. Regina also participated as a member of the Illinois State and National Baptist Convention Ushers Ministries as well as a Youth Usher Supervisor. Regina began her educational journey at Daniel J. Corkery Elementary School. At Corkery, she excelled in academics and participated in the student government. She was a member of the charter Corkery cheerleading squad. As a pre-teen, Regina began to cultivate her love for community service, while participating in the neighborhood 4-H program. Regina continued her academic training at Lindblom Technical High School from 1974-1978. She participated in student government, National Honor Society, Lindblom Athletic Association, student aide, gym leader, Math and Spanish clubs, and JETS-Junior Engineering and Technical Society. Regina also excelled in math and she was a student tutor. As a result of her love for math, Regina was invited to attend several pre-college programs on local college campuses and she was awarded a corporate internship after her senior year. Following the footsteps of her oldest brother, Regina entered the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1978. She completed her studies at the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1983. Regina was a Sigma Silhouette and she was inducted into Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc, Nu Delta Chapter, in November 1979. Regina was an extremely active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority for almost 30 years and she immensely loved the "Blue and White" Family. While in college, Regina led several activities and held several chapter positions in her sorority. Regina's involvement with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc continued after graduation as she became the Graduate Advisor for the Nu Delta Chapter and served as the Recording Financial Secretary and Treasurer on the local, State and Regional levels of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc for several years. Regina truly emulated the five principles of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc through her active participation in her graduate chapter, Zeta Tau Zeta and in the 1990's she was named "Zeta Of The Year." Regina began her professional career at Illinois Bell shortly after graduation. She continued to work with the local communication provider for over 17 years, as it morphed into Ameritech and onto AT&T. She had several corporate finance positions, including Vice President for Finance. In 2001, after early retirement from AT&T, Regina began her second career as a medical office manager in her beloved brother's office, Gold Coast Medical until her health prevented her from working any longer. In following the path God set for her, Regina was a woman who had great love for people and touched many lives as she diligently served in various organizations dedicated to the uplifting of others. As a Lupus survivor for over 25 years, Regina was actively involved in the Life with Lupus Guild since its early inception and she served as a member and Treasurer of the Executive Board of Directors. As a member of the New Covenant's Women's Mission and Ministry, Regina frequently participated in outreach activities at neighborhood shelters and nursing homes, as well as working in the Church's food pantry. Regina was also a member of the Hospitality Ministry and Sunday School at New Covenant. At the beginning of each year, Regina dutifully participated in community income tax preparation services, where she provided income tax preparation for the elderly, disabled and disadvantaged. Although Regina was truly dedicated in her church and community groups, she always took time out for her family. Regina enjoyed spending countless hours with her niece, nephew and godchildren from their infancy and they truly enjoyed hanging out with their "Auntee Regina." Regina was cherished by her extended family as she tirelessly served as the Harvey Family Reunion Secretary for over twenty years. Her paternal grandfather affectionately gave her the family title of "Queen B." Regina had a deep love for reading books and on any given Saturday afternoon you could find her at B Dalton's Bookstore after a Saturday Mall Adventure with her shopping buddies. Regina's adventures also extended beyond the Chicagoland Area as she loved to travel to any warm climate including numerous trips to the Caribbean Islands with her family and friends. Regina leaves to celebrate her life, and cherish her precious memories: her father, Waldo E. Harvey Sr.; a devoted brother, Michael D. Harvey (Irene), her loving sisters, Angela C. Harvey and Michele Harvey Davis (Bruce Jr.); her adoring niece and nephew, Kennedy Michele Davis and Braxton Xavier Davis, loving uncle and grandfather figure, Joseph Harrell Jr.; several godchildren, Kenisha C. Haywood, Peggy M. Brown, Denzel S. Davis and Michelle L. Bradley; special big sister, Janice M. Haywood; special aunts, Vera Wilcox and Betty L. Jones and loving godmothers, Ruthie Kimbrough and Pauline Barnes; childhood friends and traveling buddies: Alona Reed and Shirley Bradley; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, friends, her Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Sisters, her New Covenant Church and Life with Lupus Families.
