Rayner & Sons Funeral Home. --- Page 2 --- Alma Coleman Mathews was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 10, 1912 to the late Joseph and Rebecca Coleman. She came to Chicago in the 1940s and lived with her sister Codella, who preceded her in death; she also enjoyed a beautiful life with her sister Roberta, who also preceded her in death. She joined Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she met and married the late Willie Mathews on January 6, 1950; to this union was born a son, Willie B. Mathews, whom she adored until her demise on May 3, 2003. She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted son Willie (Billy) Mathews; friend Margo Hansbrough; a devoted niece Codella (William) Henry of Belleville, Michigan; two dear friends Rudell Mister and Chappia Foote; and a host of nieces, cousins, treasured friends and relatives.
