Pearson was born to the union of the late Eugene and Della Crockett Lewis in Collinsville, Mississippi on December 2, 1921. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Collinsville, Mississippi. She attended and graduated from the public schools in Meridian, Mississippi and Kosciusko, Mississippi. At a very young adult age, she and her husband, Mr. Wilkes, moved to Chicago, Illinois; where he later passed away. Being an aggressive young lady, she remained in Chicago rather than go back to Mississippi. She knew if she found a church home she would endure the pain and sorrow. She joined and fell in love with the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful, loyal, and dedicated member until her death. Not only did she find a loving church family; but she met, fell in love with and married Howard Pearson of Chicago, Illinois. They were married for more than 51 years. Aggressive as she was, she loved Christ and always wanted to broaden her knowledge of him as she walked with him. She graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and attended many other Bible Teaching Seminars. Not ever wanting to stop learning and growing, she attended and graduated with an Associates in Arts Degree from Kennedy-King College on May 11, 1985. She continued her search for knowledge by attending a lot of conventions, congresses, and other church related functions throughout the United States. Just to list a few of her accomplishments, she was Church Woman of the Year in 1971; thereby giving her an all-expense paid trip to the Holy Land. She was a member of the Usher League and many other church and community organizations. She loved her church and wanted to always be involved. She was a member of Usher Board #1, the Missionary Society and a Sunday School Teacher, just to name a few. Her work experience includes being a seamstress for many years in downtown Chicago, and later as a Teacher's Assistant for Lindblom Technical High School for 27 years. She loved the children and they loved her. She retired from the education of children June 19, 1994. After retirement she devoted full time to her missionary work. Gone, but not forgotten, she leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband, Howard Pearson; three stepdaughters, Jesse and Ora B. of Detroit, Michigan; and Leola Curry of Chicago, Illinois; one sister, Sarah Ross of Collinsville, Mississippi; and one brother, J.C. Lewis of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
