Most simply called him Morine, some called him Little Arthur, and Johnnie, we called him Daddy. It is with great sadness that the family of Johnnie Arthur Morine, Sr. announces his passing after an extended battle with cancer. Johnnie was born October 21, 1941 to Johnnie Morine and Elnora Gaines. Johnnie was united in matrimony to Delores Roberts on 12/11/1963, a bond that was unbroken for 55 years. From this union we were born: Johnnie (Leslie) Morine Jr., Ronald Morine, Hubert (Betty) Morine, Darren (deceased), survived by his wife, Deena; Roshonda (Brent) Turrentine, Danyelle (Brandon) Huntley and Special Granddaughter: Nesi Morine. We're compelled to continue his legacy! Dad also leaves to cherish sisters Annie Gaines, Barbara (Ben) Mays, Wilma Clinton, Audrey Baker and Jackie Paxton and brothers Sammy T. (Pearl) Morine, Ray (Monica) Hervey, Terry (Jo) Hervey; aunts Mable Atkins and Lenora Washington, a host of grand and great grandchildren. Also Special Brothers Tommy Baker, Larry Gardner and Carl Thomason. He spent his entire life teaching and responding to requests to help others, whether it was a car problem or an appliance. Dad was not formally trained in anything but a self-taught electrician, plumber, mechanic, landscaper, business man etc. He rarely denied a challenge. He also spent his early years spinning records as a DJ in his spare time for the love of music and the microphone. He was also a self-taught musician and tap dancer. Dad taught the boys how to be men, how to be a good husband, a good father, and a good provider. He taught the girls how to be women, what girls don't do and how they should act. We can't remember spankings from our Dad, not even real punishment. If we were in trouble and Mother said "wait until your Dad gets home", we knew we just avoided a flogging. He put the fishing poles in our hands when we were able to walk. He showed us how to put our feet in stirrups and raise our own food, he put a shotgun in our hands for hunting, he always joined in and showed us how to play football, basketball, volleyball and other sports. He taught the boys how to detail cars when we were 9-13 years old. Coming home from school we would often find a car or two in the yard which meant we had work to do, instead of frolicking with other kids. That's right, we knew how to buff a car at an early age which gave us a career. Ronnie was our designated interior employee. Through all of his doctor visits, sometimes 3 times a week, an extended stretch traveling to Dallas and Arlington from Texarkana, Dad never complained. When he could no longer drive himself, Hubert and Betty transported him and Mother thousands of miles without hesitation. There's no question of where we get our strength and must carry-on his warrior-like legacy. Dad had a strong relationship with the Lord from a young age. Every night we recall him kneeling by the bedside praying. This ritual continued throughout his life. He was a member of Mount Grove Baptist Church and an Honorary Deacon. --- Page 4 --- HIS STORY CONTINUES Dad loved a great party and would often take control of the flow with his very own microphone. The DJs always brought a second mic for Dad. He received his last call to the microphone on May 8th, it was an invite he could not refuse and he will not be returning. This celebration is his last bodily reunion with family and friends on earth, some he has not seen in years. His new duties are in a wonderful place where he will be re-engaged with family and friends that preceded him. He'll socialize, dance, do yardwork and control the flow for us to follow. He'll never be tired again! We watched him suffer, day by day; It caused us bitter grief; To see him slowly pine away; And could not give relief. His weary hours and days of pain; His troubled nights are past; And in our aching hearts we know; He has found sweet rest at last. 'Tis sweet to know we will meet again; Where parting is no more; And my dear husband I loved so well; Has only gone before. God knows how much I miss him; He counts the tears I shed; And whispers, "Hush, he only sleeps; Your husband is not dead." Some day, some time, my years shall see; The face I loved so well. Some day, some time, his hand I'll clasp; And never say farewell. To My Husband The pearly gates were opened; A gentle voice said "Come," And with farewells unspoken; He gently entered home. His smiling way and pleasant face; Are a pleasure to recall; He had a kindly word for each; And died beloved by all. Some day we hope to meet him; Some day, we know not when; To clasp his hand in the better land; Never to part again. --- Page 5 --- WE LOVE YOU TOO!
