Goldie M. Whitfield

In Loving Memory of Goldie M. Whitfield. September 6, 1922 - June 24, 2006. Services Saturday, July 1, 2006, Visitation 9:00 am, Funeral 10:00 am, St. Thaddeus Catholic Church, 9550 S. Harvard Ave, Chicago, IL 60620. Obituary Goldie M. Whitfield was born to the union of Eddie and Francis Miller on September 6, 1922 in Washington D.C. Goldie and her parents later moved to Brooklyn, New York. She completed her education there, and was baptized into the Catholic Church. Her chosen career was with the Federal Government. She moved to Chicago, where she met Wilma Whitfield. They became friends and Wilma joyfully introduced Goldie to her brother, Edwin Whitfield. She later retired after 25 years of dedicated service to the Department of Defense U.S. Army Engineering Procurement Office. Goldie and Edwin Whitfield were married on November 26, 1949. They raised two children; Camillia Whitfield-Polk and Edwin Whitfield Jr. After 54 years of marriage, Edwin Whitfield Sr. preceded her in going home in March of 2003. Goldie was always a world traveler, visiting Europe, Alaska and Hawaii. In her younger years her and Eddie would pack up the station wagon and start driving with Edwin Jr. in the backseat. The trips usually consisted of several scenic stops with Eddie doing all the driving and Goldie doing all the navigating. In her later years she took trips with the Vincennes Senior Center. They traveled to Hot Springs, Arkansas, Tunica Mississippi, and annual trips to Las Vegas. When she returned home to Chicago her purse was usually a little bit heavier while the casino was a little bit lighter. Goldie leaves a rich legacy of love to her family. Those who cherish the memories are son, Edwin A. Whitfield Jr., daughter, Camillia (Joseph) Polk, grandson, Gerard (Ayanna) Wilcher, three great-grandchildren, Xavier, Jalen, Jehlani, sister-in-law Wilma (Robert) Jackson, nephews; Nestor and Timothy Jackson, niece, Valerie Barnett, cousin Phyllis White, and a host of cousins; Evanston, Springfield, California. She also leaves a God-daughter, Sharon Anderson, Best friend, Joann Williams, Caretakers; Gia Baxter, Dianne Jones and her newest friend and advocate Diondai Brown.
