A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he moved to Chicago where he met Valoria McGary; they married January 12, 1952 and were married 46 years. He was a Welder at Electro Motive (a division of General Motors), retiring in 1987 after 25 years. Thanking God for having shared his life are his wife, Valoria; two sons, Derroll and Kevin (Karen); five sisters, Alberta Pillows, Mirl Simmons, Virlena (Jack) Holloway, Vernice Thompson, and Gladys (Clemon) Lacy; four brothers, James, L.Z., Nelson, and Bonnell; three grandchildren, Derroll Jr., Catrina, and Kendall; mother-in-law, Christene Bonner; three aunts, one uncle and a great host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
