Saint John Church-Baptist, 4821 South Michigan Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois 60615. Reverend Dr. William A. Johnson, Pastor, Officiating. Obituary: Cordie B. Williams was born on July 15, 1920 to Jasper and Adline Lewis in Dixie Community of Earle, Arkansas. To this union, twelve children were born, six of whom preceded Cordie in death. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Butlers Chapel CME Church. Cordie was educated in the Parkin and Memphis Public Schools; she later taught for several years. In the early 1940's, she moved to Chicago, Illinois and in 1946, she was united in holy matrimony to Fred Williams Sr., who preceded her in death. They had one son, Fred Jr., one foster son, Curtiss Burgess, and one grandson, Fred Williams III. Cordie was a former member of Olivet Baptist Church and New Exodus Baptist Church. She later joined Saint John Church-Baptist, where she served faithfully until her death. At her passing, Mrs. Williams was President of the Church Mission Society, an office she held several times previously. She was a member of the Deaconess Board and had previously served as Chairperson of this Board; she was an active member of the Pathfinder's Sunday School Class and previously held the office of Class President. Cordie served as Chairperson of Woman's Day and also served as Co-Chairperson of the Woman's Day Observance. She had served as the Pastor's Anniversary Chairperson on several occasions. After her husband's death, Cordie, being an astute businesswoman, continued to manage the family business; she was recognized for her positive presence in the Chicagoland area. Cordie B. Williams went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 24, 1992 at 7:00 a.m. She leaves to cherish her memories: a son, Fred Jr. of Lombard, Illinois; a grandson, Fred III, foster son, Curtiss Burgess (Gertrude) of Chicago, Illinois; four brothers: Henry and Eddie Lewis of Cleveland, Ohio, Clarence R. Lewis of Lombard, Illinois, and Ephron Lewis of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters, Clarla L. Williams of Earle, Arkansas and Mae Ella Wilson of Memphis, Tennessee; a dedicated sister-in-law who was viewed as a sister, Corene Lewis, who cared for her to the end; four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
