Birt, Jr. Officiating --- Page 2 --- ~The Obituary ~ Julis C. Gilmore died peacefully at home early Friday morning, June 11, 2004. He was born on June 9,1929 to Steve and Sarah Gilmore in Hope, Arkansas. He came to Toledo as a young man and went to work for the City of Toledo at age 19. He retired from the City after 40 years and 6 months. He retired as Superintendent of Solid Waste. During his tenure, Julis was the first supervisor to hire women in this department. Julis obeyed the Gospel in 1994 at the Glass City Church of Christ when Bro. Roderick Hunter was the minister. He attended regularly until his health failed. He had a passion for entertaining his friends, traveling extensively with his wife, cooking, gardening and he loved playing golf until he Injured his back. He and his beloved wife, Juanita owned S.T. Jay's Beauty Salon and Gilmore's Fashions for the past (18) eighteen years. He was a member of Amazon Lodge #4, St Matthews Consistory #24 32nd Degree, Maumee Chapter #6 Royal Arch Masons, Past Potentate of Mecca Temple #43, Golden Rule #129 and VF W Post #3013, Holland. Julis was the third youngest of 16 siblings and was preceded in death by both parents, 13 siblings, a daughter, Joyce and a grandson, Otis Crawford I!!. He is survived by his beloved wife, Juanita, sons: Julis Jr., (Brenda) Gilmore of Detroit, MI, Jason (Trenekia) Gilmore of Inglewood, CA., daughters: Julia (Raymond) Grant of Detroit, MI, Terri (Stanford) Cole, Sherry Cornelious and Tamra (Keith) Allison of Toledo. brother: Norris (Juanita) Gilmore of Fremont, CA; and Sister Betty (Charles) Finnie of Texarkana, Texas, (13) thirteen grandchildren (13) great grandchildren, goddaughter Tiffany Sanders of Burtonsville, MD., and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
