Dr. Larry Charles Davis was born in Chicago on May 3, 1953 to the union of the late Charles and Willie Mae Davis. He made his peaceful transition on February 10, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. He was the oldest of three children. Larry received Christ in his life at a very young age, being baptized under the late Reverend Frank Sims at Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a very active member of Ebenezer, and worked on the Usher Board until his health failed. He attended Corpus Christi and Dixon Elementary Schools and graduated from South Shore High School in Chicago. Larry attended Morehouse College on Scholarship, and went on to complete his degree at Chicago State University. Larry's proudest accomplishment was receiving his D.N. Certification from the Chicago College of Naprapathic Medicine. Larry enlisted and served in the United States Armed Services, distinguishable from 1985-1992. Prior to enlisting in the Army, he worked for the government in the Agriculture Department as a Physical Technician. His career also entailed working as an educator at Argosy University and DeVry University, Chicago Public Schools in addition to teaching in the Upward Bound Program at University of Illinois at Chicago and Roosevelt University. Larry was a devoted son, loving and dedicated brother, and beloved uncle. He enjoyed music, and was an accomplished musician who played the horn, trumpet, piano, and violin. He was preceded in death by his father, and leaves to mourn: his mother; sister ~ Artell Cooper; brother ~ Bruce Davis; nephews ~ Charles, Lloyd Jr. and Bernard Cooper; two nieces ~ Shenice and Charish; aunt ~ Eva Mae Poe; and a host of cousins and other relatives. I would like for you to see through my eyes the character of the man. I was blessed with two brothers each loving and unique in their own way. Larry was the oldest and I was next to him in age. Therefore, I found myself looking up to him because he set the ultimate example of how I should conduct myself in life. He was obedient, dependable and responsible as my role model for a young girl growing up. Larry did not have birth children, but he adopted his nephews and niece as his own. I will miss my conversations with him and his calm spirit. He was a gentle soul yet a strong man in Christ. My big brother was also an avid bible reader, devoted and supportive to his family. He loved life and had a great sense of humor, a person who loved people. I look forward to seeing him again. His memory will forever linger in my heart.
