Reverend David Chambers, Officiating. Obituary: Lenora Jean Davis was born June 7, 1911 in Senatobia, Mississippi. Her family later moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she finished high school and attended LeMoyne-Owens College for two years. Lenora moved to Chicago during the early 1930's. She was engaged in several activities, including owning a variety store. She also was an avid bridge player as well as an exceptional cook, having won a significant prize for an original recipe. Lenora became a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Congregational on September 20, 1931. In November 1942, she was married to Joseph Alfred Davis who preceded her in death. At age 54, Lenora enrolled at the Chicago Teachers College and earned a Bachelor's degree while graduating with honors. She subsequently taught in the Chicago Public School System for ten years. Lenora was a dependable daughter, loyal wife and a good neighbor. One of the joys of her life was watching the boys and girls of the community continue their education and succeed in their chosen careers. Along with other adults in the neighborhood, she served as a positive role model. She made the transition from this life on September 15, 2004 at 2:30pm. She was loved and respected by her neighbors and friends and will be greatly missed. She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving nephew, J.C. McGraw Jr.; a niece, Rici Johnson; seven great nieces and nephews; five great-great nieces and nephews. Inlaws include Charlyne McGraw and Christine McGraw.
