He was the eldest of four children, always taking the lead as the oldest child. Koland was preceded in death by his loving parents, one brother, Konald hannah, and one sister Sondra Bradley. Roland was united in marriage to Thelma Bernice Hannah for 33 years. With this union a new family was created, Roland's three daughters Anita, Cynthia and holotta and Bernice's daughter Phyllis. Koland and Berice were not only life companions, they were also best friends. Koland was employed by U.S. Steel for over thirty years until he was disabled. In spite of the disability, he continued to be a strong, independent and loving husband, father, and big brother. Alter relocating to Long Beach, California he maintained contact with family and friends, with frequent visits and calls. Roland loved life and enjoyed being with family and friends. He had a mild mannered personality, but he made his presence strongly felt. Roland was a wise and deep thinking man who had a unique way of expressing himself. While in Long Beach, California he became an entrepreneur, marketing his own invention. Roland was creative and artistic and could be very outspoken at times. As assaults upon his body began to change his quality of life, his visits became less frequent, but he continued his relationship with as many friends and family as possible. We laced several health crisis in the past few years, but with strength and determination he abounded back. After the untimely death of his wife, Roland returned home to Chicago. We were all elated to have him home and he was happy to be home. He remained alert enough to know everyone who visited him. His children, family and friends showered him with love, hugs and kisses. After a short reunion with us he took his leave knowing that we loved him and he loved us. His presence will be missed by his daughters, sister and brothers, friends and other family.
