Hinton Smith was born October 1, 1911 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of Oby and Susie Thomas Allen. Both parents have preceded her in death. She stayed in New Orleans until her teenage years. Oby then moved to Chicago, Illinois. She was a former employee of the DuSable High School, where she served as a high school matron and retired after many years of fine service. Oby was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church in Chicago. Oby A. Hinton Smith passed from time into eternity, March 3, 1995 in Houston, Texas where she had moved to be with her nephew. She leaves sweet memories to one niece, Cynthia Allen Joseph of Flint, Michigan; one nephew, Robert Allen, Jr. (Rose) of Chicago, Illinois; three great-nieces; four great-nephews including one special nephew, Darnell Joseph (Jeanette) of Houston, Texas; fourteen great-great-nieces and nephews; many relatives and friends from Oakland, California; one very special friend, Mayme Knight and daughter. Oby A. Hinton Smith has been preceded in death by her husband, Sonny; her sister, Josephine Spencer; one brother, Robert Allen, Sr. With Love, The Family.
