He was preceded in death by his parents, Lenora S. Torrey and Alexander Yates, his wife, Loweeta Hightower Yates, and his sister, Lenora T. Cartright Hunt. Roy, as he was affectionately known, was a caring and loving family member blessed with the gift of wisdom. He had a compelling passion for global markets and investments; at one time owned a jewelry store and for many years was a salesman at Polk Brothers until his retirement; later a financial investor for Waddel Reed and a contractor building homes in the south suburbs. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted brother, William T. Yates; his son, Alexander Yates; his uncle, Houston Smith of Jackson, MS; his niece, Denise Lang, Ph.D.; his nephews, William D. Yates, MD, and Todd Schweich; his loving companion, Fannie Williams; and many devoted cousins and friends.
