Taylor ~ Officiating --- Page 2 --- Obituary JAMES STRONG HANNAH was born in West Point, Mississippi, to Sly- vester and Lillie Strong Hannah on August 26, 1920. There were four other children between, Sydney, (Thomas, Estelle and Slyvester who preceded him in death. Along with his brother and sisters he was reared with a very special cousin and best friend, Lucille Whisenton. At an early the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he received an education at Vashan High School. In 1938 after moving to Chicago he met Dorothy McKenzie who became his life companion. On November 12, 1938 they were united in holy matrimony which lasted (33) thirty-three years until the Lord called her home. To this union four children were born, Roland Richard Hannah of Long Beach, Cali- fornia, Ronald Maurice Hannah who preceded him in death, Beverly Jean Hannah and Reginald Eugene Hannah both of Chicago, Illinois. During a period of separation from Dorothy two other children were fathered by James Stanley Hannah who resides in Los Angeles, California and Sandra Hannah who preceded him in death. On May 22, 1943 he entered the armed services at the time for reasons be- yond comprehension the service changed his name to be listed as James Hannah Strong. He was active in the service until 1949 where he received an honorable discharge. He retired from the Chicago Transit Authority in 1984. His retirement years were spent in happiness and the pursuit of establishing ties with fam- ily and friends that sometimes had to be second in his life during his work- ing years. JAMES was a kind and giving person who felt everything that was his should be shared with those who had less. He took his role as the head of the family seriously and let it be known that he would always be there whenever needed. After retirement he embraced his grandchildren and great grandchildren with love. JAMES' last days were spent in peace surrounded by his family and friends. He leaves to mourn: one brother ~ Sydney Hannah; four children ~ Roland (Bernice), Stanley, Beverly (Rodney) Bohanon and Reginald (Katie) Han- nah; grandchildren ~ Craig, Rhonda, Eric, Dana, Marcel, Anita, Cynthia, Rolotta, James Micheal, Sherronda, Christopher, Courtney, Tanisha, Mark, Troy and Tony; great grandchildren ~ Ebonee, Martin, Tonique, Capria, Changela, Erica, Jessica, Joshua, Brandy, Malik, Patrice, Bianca, Steven, Maurice, Marcel Jr., Tracy, Amina, Marcia, Lonny, Kenneth, Tremaine, Ja- son, Marques, Catrina, Ah Kee, Charles, Bradford, Sydney and Craig; great great grandchildren ~ Tamera, Tierra, and Takia; and a host of nieces, neph- ews, cousins and friends who cherished him dearly. We know that his pres- ence will be missed by those friends and relatives who loved him.
