Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Lucille Brooks. Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 4501 South Vincennes Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60653. Rev. Derwood O. Hunter, Pastor. Sunday, April 2, 1995. Visitation 5:00 p.m., Funeral 6:00 p.m. Obituary: Lucille Davis Brooks was born in Liberty, Mississippi to the union of Johnnie and Alice Davis. She was the youngest of two children. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Drew, Mississippi where she was baptized by the late Rev. M. T. Jones. Lucille was united in holy matrimony to the late Eulis Green and to this union two children were born. She later married Matthew Brooks who preceded her in death. They moved from Drew, Mississippi to Chicago in 1936 and united with the Greater Mt. Vernon Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. McDowell, where they served for a short period. After visiting Ebenezer Baptist Church and being inspired by the late Dr. J. H. L. Smith, she joined Ebenezer on Easter Sunday, 1936 and remained a faithful, generous and active member until she was stricken with Alzheimer's disease in 1985. At Ebenezer Sis. Brooks worked diligently serving as President of the Busy Bee Club; Vice President of the First Aid Nurses; Teacher in the Sunday Church School - Adult Department #2, Class #3; assisted with the reorganization of the Beautifying Club; and was a loyal member of the Gospel Chorus and Vacation Bible School-Arts and Crafts Division. In addition to serving as chairman of the Illinois State Needle and Art group where she won numerous awards for arts and crafts, Sis. Brooks served as Vice President of the Northwood River Baptist District Association Nurses and was a member of the state and national nurses auxiliaries. Sis. Brooks was also President of the Quarter Century Industrial Arts and Charity Federated Club and the Unit League of First Aid Nurses. Sis. Brooks was a gifted seamstress and designer. She will be remembered and cherished for being an ideal role model to the many play sons and daughters who affectionately addressed her as "Mom". She will be revered for her caring, sharing, her loving ways, her unconditional love and interest in her fellow man. To her immediate family, Mrs. Brooks was a pillar of strength; a counselor, a peace mediator, a close friend to all; a soldier in the mighty army of the Lord who was in constant touch with her Commander-in-Chief. Sis. Brooks departed this life on Monday, March 27, 1995 at 4:45 a.m. at Doctor's Hospital. She leaves to cherish her memory two devoted children: Eula Johnson and Willie Green (Freida); one sister, Mamie Green; a foster brother, Rev. David Jarrells; a brother-in-law, Sylvester Brooks (Iona) of Los Angeles, California; a step-daughter, Julia Brooks of Greenville, Mississippi; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
