Life Reflections: Eugene Stewart was born July 9, 1924 in Evanston, Illinois to Eugene and Martha Stewart. His parents preceded him in death. Eugene was one of five (5) children. Eugene accepted Christ at an early age and joined Bethel A.M.E. Church in Clinton, IA. Eugene received his formal education in the Iowa Public School System. He was drafted in the U.S. Army in World War II and served in the Korean Conflict and received Honorable Discharges from both. Eugene moved to Chicago, IL and attended Roosevelt University taking Business Administration and Accounting as his major under the "G.I." Bill. In 1951 Eugene was united in Holy Matrimony to Rosa Esters and in the same year joined the New Friendship Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Dr. Story Freeman. He was ordained Deacon and worked as Treasurer, Dean of Christian Education and Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday Church School. He was also the President of the Laymen Department of the Baptist State Convention of Illinois under the Progressive National Convention. Eugene worked with the Chicago Postal System and was nominated "The Employee of the Year of the Chicago Metropolitan Area" in 1976. Employed as President Treasurer of the Chicago Postal Alliance Credit Union and retired after 31 years. In 1980 Eugene joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Dr. Frank K. Sims and served as a deacon, member of the Brotherhood Union, worked with the Sunday School and as an official of the Church. On Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 5:00p our Lord reclaimed the spirit of his servant...peacefully. Eugene leaves to mourn: one brother, Paul (Johnnie) Stewart, Aurora, CO; sons, Jerry (Nan) Esters, The Colony, TX, Martin (Hila) Esters, Little Elm, TX, George (Ida) Esters, Shreveport, LA; daughters, Rochelle (Willie) Christian, Bolingbrook, IL, Edith Banks, Lula Davis, Burnham, IL, Tilda McClure, Ingrid (Edwin) Harding, Chicago, IL; daughter-in-law, Alice Esters, Tucker, GA and many nieces and nephews and a host of grand and great grandchildren and many many friends.
