Una Mary Williams Banket

St. Benedict the African Catholic Church, 340 West 66th Street, Chicago, IL. Reverend David Jones Officiating. Obituary: Una Mary Williams Banket was born January 26, 1918 in New Orleans, LA. She was the second oldest of six children born to the union of Nettie Pierre Williams and Louis Curdo Williams Sr. (both preceded her in death). Brothers Louis Curdo Williams Jr, and Theodore Williams also preceded her in death. Una was baptized at an early age at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in New Orleans, LA. At a very young age she moved with her family to Chicago, IL. She graduated from Englewood High School. Una became a very active member in the St. Carthage Catholic Parish where she served on several committees. She was especially proud of the annual spring fashion show that she helped to institute. She became an active member of St. Benedict the African after her beloved St. Carthage merged with several other churches in the area to create a new parish. In 1957 she married Ludwig A Banket Sr.- the love of her life (Big Lou she affectionately called him). To this union two sons were born, Ludwig A. Banket Jr., and Terrence E. Banket Sr. She played an active role in her children and grandchildren's lives - working as a school volunteer, and as an active member of the 74th Street Block Club for many years. She loved to attend her children and grandchildren's school functions and share in their interest (grandson Terrence Banket Jr, whom she loved dearly, preceded her in death). Una also volunteered regularly at the Vincennes Senior Center and was the secretary for the Birthday Club. Una loved life and her family very much. She was instrumental in planning and sustaining her families' reunion for many years. Una had a special interest in politics and making the world a better place to live. She had a special love for the children and babies and her family. She was a very nurturing person, always more than willing to lend a helping hand to a friend in need which she proved time and again throughout her life and in her actions. She had faith that was unbreakable and remained unaltered even as her health began to fail. She was resilient and a soldier in the army of the Lord. She was truly one of a kind. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Ludwig A. Banket Sr., sons - Ludwig A. Banket Jr. and Terrence Banket Sr., grandchildren - Shavon Banket, DeVante Banket, one great grandchild - Ari'anna Banket, three sisters - Ursula Woods, Violetta Watts, Joy M.
